ABOUT THE SC ASSOCIATION OF TAXPAYERS
A Trusted Voice for South Carolina Taxpayers Since 1982
Founded in 1982, the SC Association of Taxpayers has been committed to one simple principle: taxpayers deserve transparency, accountability, and responsible government.
For more than four decades, we have gathered and analyzed information about state taxes, spending, and fiscal policy — delivering clear, reliable insights to our members, public officials, and citizens across South Carolina.
The SC Association of Taxpayers is an independent, privately funded research and advocacy organization. We do not represent government interests — we represent the interests of the taxpayers who fund it.
Our purpose is to encourage state government to operate more efficiently, spend responsibly, and adopt sound tax policies that strengthen South Carolina’s economy.

WHAT WE DO
We closely monitor how public officials allocate taxpayer dollars and shape fiscal policy.
Our work includes:
Tracking legislation
related to taxes, spending, and budget policy
Analyzing the fiscal impact
of proposed laws
Engaging lawmakers
on policies that affect taxpayers
Informing the public
about key fiscal decisions
When legislation directly impacts taxpayers, we make our position clear —
urging lawmakers to support responsible policy and oppose measures that expand government without accountability.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is simple:
Promote fiscal responsibility. Encourage transparency. Hold government accountable.
As our state continues to grow, so does the need for independent, fact-based fiscal oversight. We remain committed to providing objective research, tracking legislation that impacts taxpayers, and making our voice heard when policies expand government without accountability.
Looking ahead, we will continue strengthening our research efforts, enhancing public transparency, and recognizing leaders who champion responsible fiscal policy and taxpayer protection.
South Carolina works best when government lives within its means — and taxpayers have a voice.
